From a simple update to a complete overhaul, the degree of complexity involved in remodeling a kitchen varies widely. The common components include the cabinets, countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet and under-counter plumbing. Other components – such flooring, lighting and paint – may also be addressed and in most instances, the appliances are replaced as well.
Things get little more involved when the layout is changed since this almost always involves reconfiguring the physical space to one degree or another. Work involving structural components can also include framing, electrical, plumbing, heating, insulation, drywall and interior trim.
Platte River Kitchens offers four remodeling options to choose from:
• Replacement
• Replacement Plus
• Custom
• Hand Crafted
Replacement – This option is for those who like the current layout and simply want to update their kitchen with all new components. This type of project does not involve reconfiguring the space or performing any work outside of replacing the existing components. The major benefits to the replacement option are time and money. The entire project can be completed in as little as five days and the cost is comparable to and most often less than refacing. So if you like the current layout of your kitchen, the replacement option is by far the best value.
Replacement Plus – This option is similar to the Replacement option in that the layout remains pretty much the same. The difference is that a limited amount of structural work may be performed. For example, soffits may be removed to allow for the installation of taller wall cabinets. Or perhaps an island is added which may require some light electrical work. The Replacement Plus option often includes more “upscale” features such as crown molding, under cabinet lighting, solid surface counter tops and a tile backsplash.
Custom – This option involves much more design time and planning than Replacement kitchens. The space is almost always reconfigured, sometimes drastically. For instance, the wall between the kitchen and dining room may be removed in order to open up the space and make room for an island with seating. Lowered ceilings and/or soffits may be removed. The electrical, plumbing and heating systems are often a major part of the project. Doors and windows may be moved or added. Custom kitchens are always quite complex and can take an average of 4 to 6 weeks to complete.
Hand Crafted – This option is for those who want to make a statement. The materials that go into the project are of highest quality and can often be quite exotic. Typically loaded with drop-jaw features and unique design elements, every visual aspect of a hand crafted kitchen is an uncompromising work of art. Every detail is carefully designed to complement the overall look and feel. It goes without saying that the time, effort and money it takes to design this type of project and bring it to life is considerable.
